AM Competency Framework (AMCF)

The Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM) has taken its Asset Management Competency Framework for Canadian Communities (AMCF) and expanded it into this comprehensive online resource for improving the AM capacity of public sector organizations in Canada and enhancing the capabilities of AM practitioners in those organizations.

Recruiting and Selection Tools

CNAM has developed several tools to help you undertake some of the Recruiting & Selection Activities you can utilize as you implement an AM-based Competency Management Program for your organization.

AMCF Hiring Checklist

The AMCF Hiring Checklist is a short form hiring guide to aid in the search for and selection of candidates for AM positions in your organization. It will walk you through the recruiting and selection process from creating the position to making an offer, while offering some tips along the way. You can use it in conjunction with the other tools below to make the process even easier for you!

AMCF Job Posting Template

Use this template to help you create a competency-based job posting for hiring an AM practitioner for your organization. There are instructions and a blank template for filling in the position’s title, description, key responsibilities, education, experience, competency requirements, and a variety of other potential job details that candidates will want to know.

AMCF Interview Questionnaire Template

Questioning techniques in the interview process are critical. It is important to focus all questions clearly on:

  • a candidate’s capacity to carry out the critical performance requirements you detailed in the job description you created for the position, and
  • Ensuring the candidate possesses the necessary personal qualities to be a good fit with the team and with the organization.

When preparing to interview several candidates for the same position it is important to maintain consistency in your questions to each candidate. This will allow you to better compare candidates and their responses.

Use the template interview questionnaire CNAM has developed to organize you and your selection team for conducting good, structured interviews and effectively evaluating candidate’s interview performances. The template includes a variety of sample questions covering the appropriate areas of an interview for an AM practitioner. Make sure to customize them for the unique requirements of the position and your organization.

Use your completed questionnaire when conducting interviews. Follow the document during the interview. Record notes on and score the candidates responses to each question in the interview.

After the interview is complete, use the table at the end of the questionnaire to conduct a follow up evaluation. These evaluation notes will allow you to have a consistent and comprehensive record on each of the interviewed candidates to effectively compare them and make your selection.
