AM Competency Framework (AMCF)

The Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM) has taken its Asset Management Competency Framework for Canadian Communities (AMCF) and expanded it into this comprehensive online resource for improving the AM capacity of public sector organizations in Canada and enhancing the capabilities of AM practitioners in those organizations.

Implementation Tools

AMCF Implementation Worksheet

CNAM has prepared a worksheet to help guide AM practitioners through the planning process for implementing an AM-based Competency Management Program. The worksheet asks key questions, provides advice on potential considerations and review materials, and offers a place to keep notes about each step in the AMCF Implementation Process.

AM Competency Profile Template

CNAM has developed a blank AM Competency Profile Template that can be populated with the competency-related details of an individual’s AM position or role, whether their own or those of other members of their team, department, or organization. The template includes space for a position or role title, description, AM responsibilities, expected AM Competency proficiencies, and associated effective behaviours.

The information in the AM Functional Areas and Roles pages can also be used to help populate the template. The generic AM Roles described in those pages are already presented in the form of a Competency Profile and can be used as a starting point for customizing a personalized profile for an individual. Competency Profiles are the starting point for:

  • Mapping the AM Roles and expected competence of your staff members
  • Assessing the gaps between an individual’s expected proficiency and current proficiency
  • Mapping the current competence of your staff, teams, departments, and organization

They are the key input and foundation of AM implementation planning and development planning efforts.
